British Sherman 17 Pounder Firefly tank in Normandy tribute.

The British modified their 17 pounder anti-tank gun first used very successfully in the Middle East against Germany’s heavy panzers in 1943. This was done by modifying the gun breach design and turret of the Sherman to fit. The British unlike the Americans realized the need for a more powerful gun to face the heavy German panzers in Normandy, the majority of which they would have to face to break out of Normandy.
