It all started in 1960, when automobile designer Hideyuki Miyakawa met Marissa, a translator, at the Turin Auto show in Italy. Some time after that, the couple started brokering between Italian design studios and Japanese car manufacturers – and #Mazda, looking for ways to distinguish its upcoming passenger cars, was all for it. In 1963, the first cooperation between Mazda and the Italian design studio Bertone gave birth to the car Mazda Familia. This would be the first of many successful collaborations between Bertone and Mazda. In 1981, Bertone and Mazda once again worked together to create the stunning Mazda MX-81 Aria concept car. It created a stir with its futuristic design, with tail lights integrated into the C-pillar, something that came into fashion for other car manufacturers much later. Probably the most amazing aspect of the Mazda MX-81 was found in its interior, where it featured a virtual cockpit in the form of a screen instead of the usual dials – absolute science fiction at the time. Many years later, in 2019, the MX-81 was discovered in one of the Mazda dapartments. The car was in very good condition and Mazda decided to restored it down to the smallest detail. The process was completed just in time for the 2020, Mazda 100th anniversary.
