The Kalevala is Finland's epic poem. Rooted deep in the Suomi culture, everyone in the country knows the stories, the characters, the poetry... But the English translations have never been an effective way to communicate the complexities and power of the epic poem. The English vocabulary can't seem to handle the poetics of the Finnish language, nor the forced 8-syllable structure of the Kalevala runes.
