Tharangams are written by Saint Narayana Theertha. This particular tharangam is in praise of Goddes Durga. She is created by Lord Vishnu with the power of the divine three: Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma for the purpose of defeating the mighty demon Mahishasura. Who was bestowed with the boon of being unrivalled and undefeated by any living man or God. Hence a Goddess of unmatched powers was the only answer to defeat and destroy his reign of terror. The dancers dance in praise of her grace, beauty, and spiritual powers.
