After the mass grave of German soldiers was discovered in Villeneuve-Loubet, a long investigation was made to find out who the soldiers who had been found were, and the circumstances of their deaths. The soldiers were members of Reserve Grenadier Bataillon 372 who had been killed in combat against members of the First Special Service Force (Black Devil's Brigade, supported by the 602nd Pack Field Artillery Battalion) on August 26th 1944. All the events and people described in the video can be found described in greater detail in the book “Autopsy of a Battle, the Liberation of the Frenc Riviera“, by Jean-Loup Gassend, Schiffer 2014, including numerous first hand accounts by 1st Special Service Force veterans.
