New muon detectors are all set to put ATLAS on track for high luminosity! 💥 The collision rates of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will ensure that particles fly through the ATLAS experiment at a much higher rate. To handle these high collision rates, ATLAS is upgrading its experiment with fast new detectors — like these New Small Wheels! But their journey didn’t start here at CERN. The wheel’s new technologies, namely the Micromegas chambers and the small Strip Thin Gap Chambers (sTGC), are being built in institutes all over the world — in five different countries for each. They are now being mounted on the wheels at CERN before being lowered into the ATLAS cavern! ⚙️ Find out more:
