Born and educated in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Professor Liberman earned his DPhil from the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union in 1972. With a distinguished career spanning multiple decades, he has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship and the Fulbright Research Fellowship. Professor Liberman is a prolific scholar with over 650 publications to his name, sixteen of which are books. His expertise spans across historical linguistics (phonology and etymology), medieval literature, mythology, folklore, poetic translation, and literary criticism.
