In a flurry of diplomatic activity, current and former U.S. government officials have traveled to China. Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger just met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. 52 years ago, Kissinger helped lay the foundation for the normalization of Sino-U.S. ties. In June, the current U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, held talks with President Xi on how to ease tensions between the two nations. Earlier this month, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had meetings with her Beijing counterparts on the economic challenges ahead. And earlier this week, U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry discussed critical climate change issues with top Chinese officials, a resumption of communication between the two countries that had been suspended since last August.
