A small thaw has cleared the streets and now you can walk on the historic cobblestones. We walk along Galernaya Street and New Holland. The Senate and the Synod live “gifts“ (some kind of wordplay in Russian), they used to joke, looking at the gorgeous arch between the buildings of the Senate and the Synod, today these buildings house the Constitutional Court and the Yeltsin Library. From here we will start, we will pass through the famous arch to walk along Galernaya Street, one of the few streets covered with paving stones of old St. Petersburg, though restored. Then we will have a little look at the Nikolayev Palace, and we will finish the walk in Novaya Holland, on the island, which as a result of gentrification from an abandoned naval facility has turned into a popular entertainment complex with a park, food courts, skating rink.
