The two-disc set 'A Story Of Music' is definitely the best compilation album ever representing the whole career of Dave Grusin. Beginning with the tune “Now I Have Someone“ from one of his first ever albums, 'A Jazz Version Of The Broadway Hit 'Subways Are For Sleeping'' (1962) it touches almost every musical phase of Grusin's complete works. Many of his highlights have been soundtrack contributions for films like 'The Graduate' (1967), 'Fuzz' (1972) and 'The Yakuza' (1974) which led him to create unforgettable tunes like “Condor!“ from '3 Days Of The Condor' (1975) and to make his own contemporary jazz albums from 'Discovered Again!' (1976) to 'Migration' (1989), almost exclusively released on his own label GRP Records, founded with his friend and collaborator Larry Rosen.
