In every single one of A. Tarkovsky’s films, except for “Solaris” and “The mirror”, we follow a protagonist, who is a prophet-like saintly figure, who leads us somewhere, usually to a certain insight. In Tarkovsky’s “Stalker”, the protagonist is not actively converting, but rather people come to him first. However, in the episode with “The Bell” of “Andrei Rublev” and “Nostalghia”, we hear the demand for faith from others. In this aspect, Tarkoffsky’s ideology in his films can be compared to sectarian propaganda.
