John Storgårds conducts the BBC Philharmonic in two dark Russian classics, Rachmaninov’s atmospheric The Isle of the Dead and Shostakovich’s broody Symphony No 11, ’The Year 1905’. Bringing light and hope is the world premiere of Finnish composer Outi Tarkiainen’s Midnight Sun Variations.
