Get to the Chopper! Our LEGO® brick version of the world's biggest helicopter, the Russian MI-26, uses just over 8,300 pieces and hangs from the ceiling! The Mil Mi-26 is a Soviet/Russian heavy transport helicopter and it is the largest and most powerful helicopter to have gone into series production. We decided to build ours in the white livery of a UN aid helicopter delivering food and medicine via parachute drop. A challenge with this build was that all of the detail pieces needed to be built into the model as it progressed. Normally we would add a marker in the model, like a gap or a “SNOT” (Studs Not On Top) brick and come back once the main body is completed and continue to “skin” the model with the details. In this case, all doors, windows and grates needed to be built and inserted as we moved up to the top. The model was designed by Mitchell Kruik and built by Claire Ashworth & Luke Cini over 52 hours.
