When peacock eyespot feathers are vibrated at 25.6 Hz using a mechanical shaker, the eyespot remains relatively stationary as compared to the rapidly moving and shimmering loose green barbs. This motion mimics what is observed during natural courtship displays. The 25.6 Hz frequency used in this experiment is the average frequency of peacock train-rattling displays.
