This beautiful lyric video for our 2013 song ‘Running’ was created by Meaghan Ogilvie, a Toronto-based photographer known for her underwater photography. The song is from our album Sadnecessary. “I have always used music in my creative process to visualize imagery for my photographs. When I was approached by Milky Chance’s team to create a lyric music video for one of their songs, I was excited at the idea of combining movement, text and music and trying filmmaking. I chose the song “Running” because I love the dynamic range and tempo of the song. The lyrics also stood out to me and I interpreted them as an internal struggle of fighting one’s emotions which I could relate to. I generally incorporate the element of water into my work and in creating this video, I used water both symbolically as a mirror of our emotions and physically as a separation between what we allow people to see (on the surface) and what we actually feel (under the surface). I collaborated with dancer Shawn Bracke who improvised movements based on the direction I gave. We filmed in a pool, and my focus was mostly on the water and not the surroundings. I wanted the environment to feel surreal and abstract and take the viewer on a visual ride to match the calm and fast-paced energy of the song. As a photographer, it was new for me to work with both moving images and text. I found it challenging to decide whether to make the image or text more visible in the frame. In the end, I had to remind myself it was a lyric video and text was priority. It was fun to use colour, size and movement to emphasize the text and match it with sounds that had more emphasis or were drawn out. The process of creating this video was challenging on all fronts, but I learned a lot and have a new appreciation for music and design. I want to thank Milky Chance for the opportunity to push my creative boundaries and thank my team Shawn Bracke (dancer), Ian Perch (assistant), Michael Moleski (safety diver) and Carly Brenner (safety diver) for helping make it possible.” Website: Instagram: LYRICS I've never been running so far so immense far when will I fall into your arms I want to try to stand the pain of my all-time-hurting-feet And what about you you drunken soul Is it your own will to go on and on until I die or are you going to give up now to give up now to give up now to give up now I've never been running so real so immense real when will I fall into your heart I want to try to stand the pain of my all-time-hurting-feet And what about you you drunken soul Is it your own will to go on and on until I die or are you going to give up now I've never been running so far so immense far when will I fall into your arms I want to try to stand the pain of my all-time-hurting-feet And what about you you drunken soul Is it your own will to go on and on until I die or are you going to give up now I've never been running so far so immense far when will I fall into your heart I want to break those circle-rules I want to dance the waltz with you And what about you you drunken soul Is it your own will to go on and on until I die or are you going to give up now to give up now to give up now to give up now I've never been running so real so immense real when will I fall into your heart I want to try to stand the pain of my all-time-hurting-feet And what about you you drunken soul Is it your own will to go on and on until I die or are you going to give up now #MilkyChance #Running #LyricVideo #Sadnecessary
