But rarely do any of them take on the challenge to design their own identity, separate from their source material. Today, we look at one of the most impressive creative adaptations performed in animation (through distinctive direction and a blend of unique moods). Tatsuya Oishi spent over 5 years making the Kizumonogatari trilogy, trying to find the best way he could adapt Nisio Isin's light novel. So let's see where that pays off.
