The need for major investments in B.C.’s watershed security has never been more urgent. Catastrophic flooding following a summer of historic drought and forest fires has brought to light the serious challenges we are collectively facing. Local governments, Indigenous nations, and stewardship groups have long called for increased provincial government support to conserve, protect and restore our shared watersheds. With its current mandate, the B.C. government is committed to creating a B.C. Watershed Security Fund. Broader public consultations about the Fund are about to be launched. The webinar will share proposed directions for the Fund from a new paper released by the Sustainable Funding Working Group, an independent group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous experts.
