This British artist named Justin Bateman, however, uses fragments of nature to create his masterpieces. Specifically pebbles, rocks, and stones. He creates temporary mosaics of people's portraits, animals, famous paintings, and statues. The artist calls it 'land art.' Justin enjoys this type of art because it's temporary and unmovable. It's much more valuable this way. Justin Piers Bateman (born 1976) is a British Land Artist, and Lecturer. Bateman is best known for his works - Stona Lisa, Girl with The Pebble Earring, Pebble Picasso, Refugee, Stray, and Lady from Lombok. Bateman specializes in creating site-specific artwork that is ephemeral. Born 1976 (age 44–45) Bateman has over two decades of experience as a lecturer and worked as an Art & Design FAD and HE Course Leader at Fareham College, UK.[3] Bateman is the recipient of the Outstanding Lecturer of the Year Award and was awarded Outstanding Teacher status by Ofsted while at Fareham College, contributing to the College receiving a Tes Award. Bateman was born in 1976 and grew up in Lee on Solent, Hampshire, with his brother Jolyon. He studied Foundation Art and Design at The University of Portsmouth.[6] Bateman in 1998 moved to London where he studied Sculpture at Central St Martins and graduated in 2001. In 2011, Bateman enrolled at Fareham College, Hants, UK, where he studied PTLS, DTLLS, and QTLS for three years. Bateman started his career in 2001 when he joined the University of Portsmouth as a Lecturer in Fine Art. In 2002, Bateman combined Lecturing with a role in marketing as Creative Industry Head. In 2010 Bateman founded an underground Arts Club called The Beehive, which was a culmination of his interests in poetry, jazz, and film. The club was patronized by young creatives who regularly met to perform work in a large number of disciplines. In 2011, Bateman left the University of Portsmouth and joined Fareham College, UK, as an Art & Design FAD and HE Course Leader. During his professional career, Bateman created numerous artworks, regularly exhibiting at 'Art Legacy' in Alton and contributing to private collections both in Alton and London. Bateman’s paintings and sculptures have been collected by several private investors, most notably Nyda and Oliver Prenn who also invested in Howard Hodgkin, Jackson Pollock amongst others. In 2017, Bateman abandoned traditional materials to focus entirely on Land Art.[8] Bateman created Stona Lisa on a beach in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England in 2019, along with fellow artist; Tony Brooks, which has appeared on several international online news websites including ITV. Stona Lisa was featured on the front page of Reddit Arts.[9] Bateman created The Girl with the Pebble Earring in 2019 at Portsmouth beach, also with Tony Brooks. The Girl with the Pebble Earring went viral, and a broadcast was aired by a local radio station, interviewing Bateman.[10] Bateman created numerous artworks between 2018 and 2020 at several locations across South East Asia.[11] During the Coronavirus Pandemic, he created multiple artworks in a Forest in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. These were published in 'The Chiang Mai Post' in December 2020. This work was also published by the UK National Newspaper 'The Sun'. Justin is an Artist currently based in South East Asia. His pockets are usually stuffed with treasures.
