About this song: Buryats, one of the indigenous Mongol ethnic groups has a long history dating back to thousands of years. Being nomads, their lands of inhabitation and migration extend to the east of Baikal Lake in the north to the Tigris and Euphrates in the west. The ancient Buryat song ‘Zayan Navaa’ has been sung for centuries in reminiscence of their loving homeland. The studies hypothesize the location of this mythical beautiful land in multiple places such as Buryatia, Inner Mongolia and even in present Iraq, particularly the place called Nay’n Nava to the north of Baghdad, where the Buryats lived during the reign of Great Mongol Empire.
