This scene is the standoff between Rachel Cooper (Lillian Gish) and “Preacher/Reverend“ Harry Powell--the ex-con (Robert Mitchum). Clip from legendary actor Charles Laughton's only film directing effort: 'Night of the Hunter' (1955) - Hymn: 'Leaning on The Everlasting Arms.' The Night of the Hunter was a collaboration of Charles Laughton and screenwriter James Agee. Laughton drew on the harsh, angular look of German expressionist films of the 1920s. The film was shot in black and white in the styles and motifs of German Expressionism (bizarre shadows, stylized dialogue, distorted perspectives, surreal sets, odd camera angles) to create a simplified and disturbing mood that reflects the sinister character of Powell, the nightmarish fears of the children, and the sweetness of their savior Rachel. In 1992, The Night of the Hunter was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant“ by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in its National Film Registry. -====================== Edited Deleted Scenes horror story thriller yt3d:enable=true Leaning on Jesus song hymn song the story of good and evil right hand left hand Camera Angles and Techniques cinematography workshop class course best cinematography scene old woman singing song american horror story asylum Robert Mitchum singing American academy award escaped from asylum Love & Hate (Robert Mitchum) - The Night Of The Hunter - Charles Laughton - 1955 Rachel Cooper: It's a hard world for little things.
