“Monday, 3 July The 3rd stage of the Tour de France starts in Amorebieta-Etxano and ends after 188.5 kilometres on French-Basque soil. More precisely: in Bayonne. The first half of the race is hilly, the second half much flatter. However, there is a 3.9 kilometre climb of 3.1% in the last 20 kilometres. The starting point of Amorebieta is known from the Klasika Primavera, a one-day race that was held until 2019. The list of winners includes riders such as Alejandro Valverde, Joaquim Rodríguez, Giovanni Visconti, Pello Bilbao, Andrey Amador and Carlos Betancur. The route of the 3rd Tour stage is very clear. Via the Côte de Trabakua (4.1 kilometres with 5.4%) and the Côte de Milloi (2.3 kilometres with 4.5%), the riders head towards the Bay of Biscay to reach France along the coast. With one of the stormiest seas in the world on their left, they meet the Côte d'Itziar (5.1 kilometres with 4.6%) and the Côte de Benta (4.6 kilometres with 6.3%). About 20 kilometres after the finish in San Sebastián, they cross the border at Irun, and then a final climb awaits them. The Côte de Saint-Pee-sur-Nivelle climbs for 3.9 kilometres with an average of 3.1%. The finish line is in Bayonne. The town at the mouth of the river Adour, which rises at the Col du Tourmalet, is 19 kilometres after the summit of the Côte de Saint-Pee-sur-Nivelle. This route is almost exclusively (slightly) downhill.“ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
