And after the Pakistan government on Wednesday recalled its ambassador from Iran and prohibited the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, who is currently visiting Iran, from returning. “Pakistan reserves the right to respond to this illegal act and the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran. We have conveyed this message to the government of Iran.“ Iran, which has a Shia Muslim majority, said that it only targeted members of the Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl. Pakistan's retaliatory strikes against Iran are yet another escalation in tensions in the Middle East where regional hostilities have been heightening from the armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza. According to a statement released by the U.S. military on Wednesday, the U.S. has also carried another round of attacks against 14 Houthi missile launchers that were targeting international shipping routes. This marks the fourth time that the U.S. has struck the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen in less than a week. The U.S. Central Command said that a drone fired from areas controlled by the Houthis struck a U.S. vessel earlier on Wednesday.
