The McGovern Institute for Brain Research has acquired a magnetoencephalography (MEG) scanner for human brain imaging. In this 2-part lecture, Ronald Gordon of Elekta introduces MEG imaging to the MIT community. The first hour provides an overview of MEG, including: historical development, basic MEG physics, noise cancellation, basic source modeling, and experimental and clinical applications. After a break, the second hour concentrates on operational details of the Elekta Triux MEG System and is targeted to individuals who may be interested in using the imaging facility. The new instrument is installed in the Martinos Imaging Center under the direction of Professor John Gabrieli and will complement the center's existing capabilities based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalography.
