In the early hours of June 6, Israel launched a strike on a UN school in Nuseirat, Gaza, that killed at least 35, including 14 children, according to early reports. The official US Department of State response: ‘Israel has a right to try and target those civilians.’ Spokesman Matthew Miller was responding to questions about the strike during his daily briefing when he made the blunder. According to a clarification later released by the state department, Miller had misspoken, mixing up ‘Hamas,’ with ‘civilians.’ While a footnote is expected to accompany the official transcript of the briefing explaining the gaffe, it is highly unlikely that footnote will accompany the thousands of clips of the incident that are making their rounds on social media, where people are now wondering if he really misspoke, or if he was just saying the quiet part out loud. Miller continued, ‘but they also have the obligation to minimize civilian harm and take every step possible to minimize civilian harm.’ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freedom over censorship, truth over narrative.
