China tests intercontinental nuclear missile in Pacific Ocean for first time in 44 years: China’s Defense Ministry reported on the night of September 25 that it tested an intercontinental ballistic missile, which fell in the Pacific Ocean “in a precisely designated sea area.“ Such tests have not been conducted since 1980; Beijing has been conducting launches on Chinese territory in recent years. The Chinese ICBM launch was reportedly tracked by Taiwan’s Leshan radar and an American RC-135S reconnaissance aircraft from Japan’s Kadena air base. The Yuanwang-5 ship of the PLA Strategic Support Forces was involved in taking telemetry data from the missile’s flight. It was located 25 km south of the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
