Valentin Pouzanokov fagotto “ The arrangement of the well-known Protestant chorale Es ist genug (“It is Enough”, 17th century) was made especially for the project “Scrivere per il Futuro“ of the SIMC. In my work I wished to disengage myself from compositional “authorship” and to avoid any kind of harmonic or textural “embellishment” of this sacred melody, thereby to expose its initial peculiarity, asceticism, and power. For this reason, my choice fell on monophonic wind instrument – bassoon. In my arrangement I have tried to find for each note of the chorale such “chords” are chosen from the small set of the “readily” available bassoon multiphonics which form a certain new “enharmonic” succession. I aspired not to compose an original harmonization of the chorale, but, in a way, to sing through the monophonic chorale with the “larynx” of the bassoon itself, its own “vocal cords” which independently generate a “multiphonic accompaniment”.
