Affectionate collie Lassie is in the care of two orphans, Samantha (Sally Boyden) and Chip Stratton (Shane Sinutko). Their grandmother decides to take them on a road trip to visit a relative, but dies unexpectedly in transit, leaving the Stratton kids to fend for themselves against a cruel world and their even crueler uncle, Stuart (John Reilly).
