I. CAN’T. BREATHE!!! Needless to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this. So much so that I didn’t want to stop and only put down my Apple Pencil when my sister reminded me I could easily start on another portrait of him especially since I have already identified the reference photo for my next GY project. 🤭 Speaking of reminder and doing what I love, the late Adrian Tan, who was the president of the Law Society of Singapore and well-known for his “Teenage Texbook” series in the 1980s, had, inter alia, this advice for the graduating class of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in 2017: “Resist the temptation to get a job. Instead, play. Find something you enjoy doing. Do it. Over and over again. You will become good at it for two reasons: you like it, and you do it often. Soon, that will have value in itself.”* Adrian, who sadly passed away two days ago (8 July 2023) after losing his battle with cancer, had also described my love for my boy to a T thus: “…I exhort you to love another human being. … You will find, that when you have someone to love, that the face is less important than the brain, and the body is less important than the heart. You will also find that it is no great tragedy if your love is not reciprocated. You are not doing it to be loved back. Its value is to inspire you.”* Oh! And before I forget, a very, very happy birthday, my beautiful Gong Ji Chul! ♥️ May you be blessed with all that is good and may you continue to inspire those who love you to be the best that we can be. *extracted from the late Adrian Tan’s “Life and How to Survive It”.
