Original motion picture soundtrack by Klaus Doldinger & Giorgio Moroder. ’Never Ending Story’ taken from the 1984 Limahl album “Don’t Suppose“ The NeverEnding Story is a pop song from 1984 and the theme song to the film score for The NeverEnding Story . It was written by Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey and sung by Limahl. The song was written by Moroder (music) and Forsey (lyrics) and also produced by Moroder. Dee Harris played guitar. Beth Anderson did the backing vocals . She sang her part in the USA separately from Limahl, who recorded in Europe. The French version of the piece is entitled The NeverEnding Story ( L’histoire sans fin ) and was sung by Limahl and Ann Calvert; Pierre-André Dousset wrote the text. For the German version of the film, a different title track composed by Klaus Doldinger was initially used. After Limahl’s version made it into the charts in Europe, the film was re-released in Germany with the US soundtrack. Not only did the song reach the top 20 in the United States and high chart positions in many European countries, it was also a number one hit in Sweden and Norway. In Germany, where the single was available in August 1984, it was in the charts for a total of 21 weeks from August 27, 1984 to January 21, 1985 and reached number two, tenth place in the German annual charts for 1984 . In the United Kingdom, the single, which was only released there on October 1, 1984, reached number four and achieved silver status on December 1, 1984 for sales of more than 200,000 units. The piece was also used in a cover version in a commercial for the Renault Mégane GT.
