The German Kriegsmesser, or “War Knife“, is an imposing weapon used in the middle ages all the way up to the 1500's. Made famous by the Landsknecht, these swords were used by professional soldiers and featured single-edged, sometimes curved blades and a crossguard similar to that of longswords and other medieval blades of the time. Pavel Moc, a swords smith from the Czech Republic, recreated this faithfully from an antique piece to make a weapon that is useable two handed AND one handed. My girlfriend commissioned this custom sword for me, for our 1 year anniversary! Wow, what a keeper right? It cuts like a light saber and is beautifully formed. If you are or were a katana nerd like me and wanted a sword that utilizes longsword architecture while having the gentle curved blade that silhouettes like a Japanese sword, you might like Kriegsmessers if you are getting into HEMA.
