Join us for an update on the Gough Island Restoration Programme – a globally significant conservation programme led by the RSPB and Tristan da Cunha, with support from many organisations, including BirdLife South Africa and The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Nini van der Merwe, who has been working on the project since 2018 and was part of the on island baiting team, will give a brief summary of how the programme team worked to rid the island of invasive house mice. The programme hopes that their interventions will save the 2 million seabirds that were annually affected by the presence of the mice and restore this World Heritage site. Dr Anton Wolfaardt, the Project Manager for the Mouse-free Marion Project also joined us to give an update on the the status of the work towards eradicating mice from Marion Island.
