While watching a Top Gear UK special on the new Gordon Murray hypercar, a piece of the interview with Gordon Murray stuck out at me that I found just fascinating: Gordon Murray, the designer of the McLaren F1, decided to sell his baby because it became untenable to own. In a twisted way, it's almost sad. It sounds like he loves to use his stuff and he loved to hoon this car, but once the value got so high, the risk of doing so no longer made sense. I know he can probably cry all the way to the bank, and if it were just a typical owner, it probably wouldn't resonate. But the fact that this man designed one of the most iconic supercars of all time, had one, and due to success of his own making and the money that resulted from it, could no longer enjoy what was basically his baby is first world problem ironic. This video ruminates on that, and other such thoughts, while going on an inspired drive in my McLaren MP4-12C – enjoying it the way it was meant to be!
