#Socialism gets a bad rap. It's been vilified by many political pundits as being anti-capitalist or anti-democratic when that is simply not works by giving public control over the means of production. This means that the government owns, operates, or regulates things like steel factories, water sources, roads and schools. This can actually be an incredibly important part of a nation as it allows for a baseline of #equality to be established. If schools are regulated, every citizen can be guaranteed the same minimum quality of education. Water regulation means that everyone gets clean, potable water and that those who misuse rivers and streams are punished. Electricity is needed for everyone, and so power plants are treated as public goods too. This does not exclude capitalism - many businesses can run in tandem with socialism. Having a universal basic income is socialist, but does not preclude Taco Bell and Microsoft. This is distinct from communism, where all businesses are under government
