[ 日本語の動詞 ] 勉強の際に意識したい3つのチェックポイント Hi everyone! How's it going? This is Part 10 of the video series edited by anmi. Please watch out for semantic and syntactic discrepancy while translating. Dealing with verbs, for example, のぼります is an intransitive verb whereas to climb is a transitive verb. Therefore, のぼります does not go with Object Marker を but it goes with either Path Marker を or Direction Marker に. Dealing with nouns, for example, やま is a 3 dimensional space that you can travel through. It is not a flat surface that you can be on. 私は、山を登ります。 means that I walk upwards through the woods to get to the top of the mountain in order to get to the other side of it. (I walk across it, from one end to the other.) 私は、山に登ります。means that I walk upwards towards the top of the mountain. 山を登ります。and I climb a mountain. are semantically similar but not exactly the same, let alone syntactically.
