#military #tank #ww2 “On the Frontier of Immortality” a unique tank “T-34/76” shielded with additional armor from the collection of our museum “Battle for Leningrad” named after Z.G. Kolobanov drove around the site in front of the audience. Its crew were teenagers-winners of the essay contest “The Battle for Leningrad”. The tank was produced in the first half of 1942 in the city of Gorky, at the plant number 112 “Krasnoe Sormovo”. The decree to install additional protection for T-34 tanks came into force on January 15, 1942, and in the fall of 1942 this tank took part in the Sinyavinskaya operation and died during one of the attempts to break the blockade of Leningrad. Dozens of years later during field search expeditions in the area of Sinyavinskiye Heights its broken hull and turret were found by searchers. The restoration of the tank was carried out for more than one year, at the last stage from December 26 to January 15, specialists of the museum “Battle for Leningrad” named after Z.G. Kolobanov mounted all the units and assemblies under the armor, as well as installed the turret. Three days later, the tank drove on its own in front of the guests and spectators of the action “On the Edge of Immortality” at the museum-reserve “The Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad”. One of the participants of the action was the Governor of the Leningrad Region - Alexander Yuryevich Drozdenko. January 18 is one of the most important dates in the history of the city. Exactly 80 years ago, the Soviet war-liberators stormed a 14-kilometer fortified strip of the enemy, breaking the siege ring that bound Leningrad. On that day, the Nazi aggressor lost forever the opportunity to seize the northern part of Leningrad.
