Tomoe nage, known as the “stomach throw“ or “circular throw,“ is a judo technique where the tori (person executing the throw) falls backward, placing their foot on the opponent's lower abdomen or hip, and uses this leverage to flip the opponent over their head. This technique relies on the tori's ability to pull the uke (opponent) forward while simultaneously executing a strong leg push, resulting in a dynamic and powerful throw. Yoko Tomoe nage, or “side circular throw,“ is a variation of Tomoe Nage. In Yoko Tomoe Nage, the tori falls to their side rather than directly backward. This adjustment in position changes the angle and trajectory of the throw, making it more difficult for the opponent to anticipate and counter. The primary difference lies in the direction of the fall and the placement of the tori's body. While Tomoe Nage uses a straight backward motion, Yoko Tomoe Nage employs a lateral, side-falling movement, providing a unique approach to the circular throwing technique.
