The message of this cantata – recorded here for All of Bach with Shunske Sato - is fairly general and one that the devout church-goer in Bach’s day would have known only too well: praise and glory to he who created the earth and mankind. Partly due to this general character, we can only guess at the precise occasion for which Bach wrote this cantata. It is obvious, however, that it was a festive one; maybe a wedding or a thanksgiving service. The alto aria ‘Ich will dich all mein Leben lang’ is sometimes described as one of Bach’s most inspired moments.
