Listen in high quality on bandcamp: This famous carol is originally an Ukrainian folksong. It was sung on the first day of the year, which used to be the first of May. The melody in Part A (0:00 - 1:37) and Part C (2:23 - 3:49) is traditional Ukrainian. It is very old and probably pre-Christian. This old song is called “Shchedryk“. The original, pre-Christian version may have sound like this: In 1916 the Ukrainian teacher and composer Mykola Leontovych arranged this folksong into a version for mixed Choir (SATB). Ariana Le Fay (singer and composer of DRAGONTOR) rearranged it for female choir (SSAA). The harmonisation is the same as in the version of Leontovych. The music in Part B (1:38 - 2:22) is composed by Ariana Le Fay. The Metal part of the whole song (Rhythm-Guitar, Drums) is composed by Tommy Wozniak (Guitarist and composer of DRAGONTOR). All the scenes with the three scaters were filmed by COTTONBRO STUDIO. All the other scenes were filmed by many different artists. The lyrics of the DRAGONTOR version are on German and they are written by Ariana Le Fay based on the original Ukrainian lyrics. ((song)) Lyrics: Mystischer Drang, Zaubergesang, trillernder Klang, schwingt meilenlang. Translation: Mystical power, magical singing, trilling sound sounds for miles. Misty and cold. Words, so old. In the form of a swallow, coming out of the forest, through ice and snow, a fairy is flying. Softly a deer is looking over the see. Quickly like the wind, it is flying swiftly down to the meadow, through the dew of the laws. The swallow song spreads then, everywhere, in the mountains and the valleys! It arrived the human-village, where it is welcome, it flies into the house. It twitters loudly and with a powerfull throat, It twitters lovely and with all its soul, wobbling around, here and there, wakes everyone up: “May has come! May has come! May has come! Listen dear people, listen without timidity, It's New Year's Day, such a joy! Listen, because i bring good news. I found lambkins, strong and healthy, high in number, over there in the barn! Everywhere, a happy sound! Listen what I'm saying: Today prosperity and happiness return here! I bring blessings to you and sing about it. I've seen what's going to happen. A plenty harvest and golden sheafs you will have in the new year. Come, come out of the house! Come, come out into the field! The ringing of bells delights everyone, The ringing of the herd sounds for miles!“
