One German General who was executed at the end of the Second World War was Helmuth von Pannwitz, who led a group of Cossack soldiers who fought for the German Army. Von Pannwitz was very well respected by the Germans, but at the end of the war he was handed over to the Soviets by the British and he was then imprisoned. He was treated as a traitor, and he was then executed under rather strange circumstances inside of a Moscow Prison.
