Newcastle-on-Tyne, Tyne and Wear. Students prepare their floats for a rag parade through the streets of Newcastle. Students featured are from Kings College, Durham University. Several students work on a float which is decorated to look like a train. Other floats are seen. C/U of the rag collecting tins. They are labelled “Rag 1956“ and money collected will go to Dr Barnado's homes. L/S of floats including one called “Crock's Island“ where students are bandaged up and have crutches. Another float has a woman dressed as a mermaid. Moving shot of the crowd lined streets. High angle shot of marching band, lots of students playing various instruments.
