Midwest Furfest 2022, hosted in Chicagoland on December 1-4, surpassed its own record from pre-pandemic levels (which were nearly neck-neck with Anthrocon) to cement itself as the largest Furcon in history by a large margin. Attendance was 13,641 paying attendees and likely many other “ghosts“. Its future potential for growth (next to one of the busiest international airports in the world and a mostly unused convention center) seems assured. It was my pleasure, as always, to attend my local FurCon of Midwest Furfest and document what could be the beginning of the furry fandom achieving similar economic, attendee, and pop-culture status as sci-fi or anime fandoms in the Western world.
