We started the day with five chicks and at the time of writing we ended the day with five chicks so that's somewhat of a relief. The day was not without drama though. Unfortunately, a magpie has taken an interest in the nest box and was probably looking to snack on our chicks. As you'll see in the video (6:37) it gave them a hell of a fright. The hole is too small for a large bird such as a magpie and some of you may remember that it has a piece of metal protecting the hole so that bigger birds cannot peck their way in. There's been a selection of insects brought in today and the parents seem to think that the chicks are ready for bigger food if their choices are anything to go by. Some of these are a bit on the too large side though. More tomorrow...
