3 of 3 - The last of 3 showing a portrait painting tutorial, with me glazing oil paint on a portrait painting using the grisaille technique in real time. Here I continue to add more highlights with glazes of oil paint and velaturas. A velatura is a glaze of oil paint which is semi opaque, i.e. in my case this means it has a little Titanium White oil paint in it. This is the end of the first glaze only, and that when this is dry I will paint another 6 or 7 glazes over the top of the first glaze, and the portrait will gain further depth and lustre as these glazes are added. Each time I start a new glaze I will rub down a thin layer of medium, to 'wet' the surface. I use M. Graham's Walnut Alkyd Medium as it dries quickly and doesn't have any mineral spirits. Colours I'm using are Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium red and orange, Indian Yellow, Sap Green, Ultramarine blue, Raw Sienna, Titanium White. I generally use hog brushes here with some sable ones later on.
