But when the equipment and infantry of the 58th army went , the order was given to reach Melitopol without a single shot being fired. Locals came out, greeted, waved, and some even carried Russian flags. We reached Melitopol without fighting. There were skirmishes, already near the city for the first time a battle with enemy tanks, but 90% of the APU fled. After Melitopol, we went further and already on the roads the enemy began to ambush our columns. For the most part, ambushes are stupid - in landings along the road cells for shooting prone and from the knee. They took prisoners. The APU threw equipment, and ours passed village after village. By mid-March, our troops reached Ugledar, only 5 kilometers remained - the regiment was moving like a bulldozer, destroying the horsemen in every village and landing.
