Hello, Clive here... One night, after my friend John Renbourn and myself had played a concert together near my neck of the woods, the promoter offered us 2 pints of a local beer called Abbot Ale. Renbourn enjoyed it very much and we had more! Soon after, he earned the nickname 'Abbot' and for some reason I became known as 'The Kid’. I wrote 'The Abbot's Hymn' shortly after hearing the terribly sad news that my old friend John Renbourn had died (March 2015). 'In the Deep' was written after John Renbourn had learn'me (that's how one of my guitar heroes Lightnin' Hopkins would have said it), some new experiences when we were on the road down in Texas by the Gulf of Mexico. The guitar used here is my main touring instrument: a Ralph Bown OM (2003). I hope you enjoy the music, Clive. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel! Join me on Facebook! If you play guitar and want to learn 'In the Deep', you may be interested to know that it is included on a guitar course I recorded with the online tuition company 'Truefire' entitled 'The Art & Craft of Acoustic Guitar'(!) It includes a thorough breakdown of the piece on video and is accompanied by staff notation & tab. Staff notation / TAB only for both pieces are available at:
