Considered by many film buffs as one of director Federico Fellini's very best films, the Oscar-winning AMARCORD has an equally legendary soundtrack, composed by Nino Rota. Rota is widely and rightly considered to be one of the finest composers of classy film music in history. In this video 'Le Manine di Primavera' is played by Jo Brunenberg on a custom built Saltarelle Cleggan Accordion with 96 bass instead of 72 and on the right side 35 keys, of which the first is not a D-DRONE but a G instead and the highest tone is F. Amarcord is a 1973 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Federico Fellini, a semi-autobiographical tale about Titta, an adolescent boy growing up among an eccentric cast of characters in the village of Borgo San Giuliano (situated near the ancient walls of Rimini) in 1930s Fascist Italy. The film's title (pronounced [amarˈkɔrd]) is a univerbation of the Romagnolo phrase “a m'arcord“ (“I remember“). The title then became a neologism of the Italian language, with the meaning of 'nostalgic revocation'. Titta's sentimental education is emblematic of Italy's “lapse of conscience.“ skewers Mussolini's ludicrous posturings and those of a Catholic Church that “imprisoned Italians in a perpetual adolescence“ by mocking himself and his fellow villagers in comic scenes that underline their incapacity to adopt genuine moral responsibility or outgrow foolish sexual fantasies. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, and was nominated for two more Oscars: Best Director and Best Original Screenplay). Amarcord is een autobiografische film van Federico Fellini uit 1973 die verhaalt over een jaar van zijn jeugd in het fascistische Rimini van 1937. Amarcord bevat niet zozeer een plot maar de film is een aaneenschakeling van herinneringen van de hoofdpersoon. De film begint als in het voorjaar de pluisjes van de populieren door de lucht vliegen en het eindigt als een jaar later de pluisjes weer verschijnen, tijdens de bruiloft van de mooiste vrouw van de stad. In de film zijn naast de familie- en jeugdperikelen van de hoofdpersoon ook de maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen van voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog zichtbaar; de opkomende elementen van de fascistische staat duiken geregeld op en staan tegenover het communisme dat de vader van de hoofdpersoon aanhangt. Beroemd is de scène waarin oom Teo, voor een dagje op het platteland uit het gesticht gehaald, in een boom is geklommen om daar over het landschap de hartenkreet uit te schreeuwen: voglio una donna! (Ik wil een vrouw!). Niemand krijgt hem naar beneden, tot de dwergnon uit het gesticht is opgehaald die hem na een korte maar hartgrondige tekst uit de boom praat. Fellini's huiscomponist Nino Rota heeft de muziek voor deze film gecomponeerd. Fellini won met Amacord een Oscar voor de beste buitenlandse film.
