This is a never-before-seen look at the sunken ruins of the RMS Titanic, recreated in a stunning 3D visualization by data taken by two submersibles in a 6-week expedition to the wreckage site last year. Scientists have heralded the project, spearheaded by deep-sea mapping firm Magellan, as a revolutionary development that will ‘completely rewrite’ people’s understanding of the 111-year-old disaster. ‘I have been studying Titanic for 20 years, but this is a true game changer,’ Titanic explorer and researcher Parks Stephenson said in a statement. ‘What we are seeing for the first time is an accurate and true depiction of the entire wreck and debris site. I’m seeing details that none of us have ever seen before.’ ‘The volume of data that we acquired was enormous,’ added Magellan’s chief exec Richard Parkinson. ‘[T]he results were astonishing.’ » Sign up for our newsletter KnowThis to get the biggest stories of the day delivered straight to your inbox: » Subscribe to NowThis: For more tech & science news, subscribe to @NowThisNews. #titanic #wreck #science #Politics #News #NowThis Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: » Tweet us on Twitter: » Follow us on Instagram: » Find us on Snapchat Discover: NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
