How many instances did you tally up? Script SANDY: Derek, thanks so much for coming in to meet me. How are you doing? DEREK: I’m doing all right. Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your mind. SANDY: Absolutely. As you know, we’re under a lot of pressure, and the future of our agency depends on the success of this flight. DEREK: The future of our agency? SANDY: Yes, if we can’t justify the cost of this flight, we may lose our funding for the next decade, and I would feel terrible if that happened. DEREK: Hmm. Sounds like being a first-time commander has put you under the gun. SANDY: Oh, absolutely. And that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. I need to ask you a favor. SANDY: I’d like to ask you to go out and perform maintenance on the Mars rover while we’re there. I know this seems like a lot to ask, but I believe if we can get the rover up and running again it’ll make us look really good in the public eye. DEREK: In the public eye? SANDY: Yeah, if we can generate enough goodwill with the public, I believe we’ll be in a really good position when it comes to getting government funding. DEREK: So it sounds like we need to win the public’s trust, and by extension, the government’s in order to have funding for the future. SANDY: Yes. I’m glad you understand. DEREK: I know I’m gonna sound like an employee who doesn’t wanna pull his weight, doesn’t wanna do the work. Would you be against me thinking about this for a few hours, and then we can meet again and perhaps share some ideas as to what this is gonna look like going forward? SANDY: No, I don’t mind at all.
