On this day, a century ago, the 9th of November, 1923, Adolf Hitler led a column of German Nationalists in an attempt to make a new state government in Munich as part of the German Revolution of 1923. He was attempting to emulate Benito Mussolini’s March on Rome of the previous year, and eventually march on Berlin and remove the Weimar government from power. However, his parade encountered the state forces, who opened fire on them, sixteen martyrs fell, whilst the others retreated. The Blood Flag was created in this event when one of the martyrs fell atop it.
