In 2018, the filming of Sound of Freedom was stuck in limbo. An angel investor, Eduardo Verastegui, armed with other people's money, and his now-defunct studio, Santa Fe Films, came to the rescue. However, as soon as filming wrapped, Santa Fe Films folded, taking investors' money with it. Tim Ballard and Eduardo Verastegui embarked on a five-year quest to find a distributor. Allegations of financial fraud began to emerge after deadlines came and went. Tim Ballard and Glenn Beck held fundraiser after fundraiser, bringing in millions of dollars under the pretense of bankrolling the distribution of Sound of Freedom. Ballard enlisted the support of disgraced former General Flynn and Jim Caviezel to appeal to QAnon patriots in several rounds of fundraising. In the midst of fundraising blitzes, allegations of fraud and child sex abuse against Verastegui began to emerge.
